... So I'm running to Dreamwidth.
I used to be on Livejournal and then Dreamwidth back in the day, in a time when the internet was, for the most part, fun. My username was puddingtreat (deleted and purged). I used to be in fandom roleplay games on here. Internet was mostly an adventure at the time. People had personal websites and ran blogs, people interacted on forums related to their interests. At one point, like a lot of people, I left for Tumblr, Facebook, and Instagram. Sadly, over the years these platforms haven't improved for the better. With algorithmic feeds consisting of ads, influencers telling me to buy things, more ads, overconsumption, generative AI slop, clickbait, general outrage culture, ragebait, trolls, even more ads, and my content/data being scraped for profit/AI training, I've decided that I'm done with the enshittification. I removed my (fan)art from the internet and deleted all social media acounts other than The Storygraph, MyAnimeList, and Discord. And that was before shitshow since the 2024 US elections and the resulting bootlicking by big tech early 2025.
Yet, I still want to ramble into the void, mostly about my interests. I tried Substack, but it still had a twitter-like feed and some ... controversies related to platforming and allowing Nazi's to earn money through said platform, which left a sour taste in my mouth, so I left shortly after joining. I also don't necessarily want my ramblings to be reposted or shared all around, much less end up in people's mailboxes. I also didn't want a Wordpress or get stuck with a monthly payment for my own domain. Neocities exists, and though I love the idea of retro indie web, it doesn't seem to be a good fit for a blog.
So I ended up here. Written long form content isn't very popular any more, but it's how I prefer to express myself and I like the idea of a smaller platform without AI slop. Also, Dreamwidth still existing is very nostalgic.
I'll be sharing some ramblings here on occasion related to my interests. I'm in my late 30s, a leftist cis cat lady (she/her) from the Netherlands who loves books (fantasy, scifi, but also other genres), video games, and anime/manga. So expect ramblings related to that. I think I'll share a few posts I had made on Substack as well, for archiving purposes. My regular handle is ChronicVillainy, but alas, that username was taken by a ... musebox I made and later deleted back in the day.
